Happy Sunday, Reader!
Happy Easter Sunday.
A day that reminds us that no matter how things look… new life is always possible.
Bloom where you are planted. This week I’ve been thinking about where we come from, and what we carry forward as a legacy to those behind us.
Scripture of the Week
“By their fruits you will know them.” — Matthew 7:16
The Freedom Shift
"Bloom where you are planted.”
I heard this saying earlier this week and it fits perfectly with Easter weekend.
I first heard my Aunt Lillian say it years ago. I was a young working mother at the time, and honestly, I didn’t think much of it. I was focused on managing my life and building for the future.
But the older I get, the more I understand the wisdom in those words.
My mom was one of eight sisters. Aunt Lillian was the second oldest, and she was a nun. All eight of those women knew how to bloom where they were planted.
Born during the Depression, they grew up in a large family which included their parents, a brother and a live-in grandmother. It was a full house, where they shared a couple of bedrooms and just one bathroom. But that home was full of life, love and laughter.
Two became nuns. The others married and raised families, mostly as stay-at-home moms. All were women of deep faith. Their lives were simple, but there was something about them that stood out.
They made people feel special.
Not in a surface way. In a real way.
They noticed you when you walked into a room. They were genuinely interested. They asked questions. They listened. They complimented you. They made you feel like you mattered.
None of them had perfect lives, but they all radiated joy.
Between them, they had 26 children, all with different personalities, lifestyles and challenges. But no one was criticized, labeled, or cast out, no matter what path they were on.
Everyone was loved unconditionally. That didn’t happen by accident.
It came from their faith.
They believed each person was created by God, and they treated them that way.
Looking back now, I can see the legacy these ladies passed on to me.
Kindness. Compassion. Acceptance.
A love for life and for all God's blessings.
They taught me to see people. To ask questions. To listen. To care.
Learning to bloom where I am planted has allowed me to find joy in the moment and delight in the people around me.
It took me a long time to fully appreciate that.
I grew up in a different time. We were conditioned to chase success. I built businesses, set goals, and spent years focused on what was next.
But now I can see something I didn’t understand back then.
They already had what I was chasing.
Peace.
Prosperity.
Purpose.
And contentment.
They enjoyed one another's company. They laughed. They told stories. They didn’t take life too seriously.
Their faith in God sustained them through hard times and they stood strong in their faith.
And now, I feel a responsibility to pass on their legacy.
Reader, who in your life made you feel truly seen and appreciated…and how can you become that person for someone else?
Wellness Wisdom
One thing I’ve been noticing lately is how much the outside world affects our well-being.
Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally.
When we’re surrounded a constant input of anger, fighting, doom and gloom, the body lives in a state of tension.
Even when we don’t realize it.
And over time, that shows up.
Fatigue. Brain fog. Feeling depressed, but not quite sure why.
What’s helped me is very simple.
Less input. More quiet. Time outdoors. More intentional rest.
I've learned the importance of focusing on the positive, living in the moment and expressing gratitude for all that is good.
We are all empowered to give our own body the space to be free from stress. Sometimes, we forget to proactively do this.
If this resonates, and you feel like there’s something deeper going on with your health, I’ve been learning more about how brain health and inflammation affect everything from mood to energy.
There’s a free 3-day workshop coming up in April that explains this in a much deeper way. If you would like me to send you an invitation, please reply and let me know.
Prospering with Purpose
This week I’ve been reflecting on a line from the Lord’s Prayer:
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
For most of my life, I thought about prosperity in terms of making money and saving for the future.
It meant planning, goals, and effort.
Continually asking myself "what do I need to do" and "how do I make it happen?"
But this is different.
This is about trusting God's plan to provide for us.
Emmet Fox writes that because we are children of a loving Father, we can expect God to provide everything we truly need.
Not just spiritually, but practically.
Food. Clothing. Shelter.
Freedom.
All of it is included in what he calls “daily bread.”
That’s a very different way of living.
It shifts us from striving… to receiving.
From control… to trust.
I’m still learning what that looks like in real life.
But I’m starting to see it.
When I stay focused on what matters, Faith - Family, Freedom, things begin to come together in a different way.
It's a different way of walking through life.
And maybe that’s what Easter reminds us of.
That even when things feel uncertain, or unfinished… something new is always being made possible.
Not through striving, but through trusting in the "daily bread."
With Peace, Janet
